There will be a partial solar eclipse on 12th August 2026 - around 90-96% of the Sun will be covered by the Moon. This will be the most coverage seen from the UK and Ireland since the 1999 solar eclipse, which was total from most of Cornwall and Devon. To celebrate and witness this historic event, the Chipping Norton Amateur Astronomy Group are hosting a special evening at the Wolfords Village Hall car park from 6pm onwards. They will bring specialist telescopes with adapted filters so that the eclipse can be viewed safely. The eclipse will commence at about 18:15 and end at 20:00, shortly before sunset. Refreshments will be provided.
WARNING: Do not look directly at the sun at any time with the naked eye - even when the eclipse is at its fullest. To view the eclipse safely, use approved filters on telescopes, wear special approved eclipse glasses, or use a pinhole camera with your back to the sun.
